Recovered

October 13th.

After 3 days, I think we have all about recovered from our sleep deprivation. Lenora May (I suggested Pamela Louise but) has taking to nursing like a champ.

The house is full of pack-n-plays , baby bouncers, and car seats that have been borrowed or ordered. Soon, the desired ones will be chosen, and the others returned, boxes to recycling. Still to come is a stroller.

Bella and I are crocheting miniature amigurumi*: her a leopard, me a rabbit. Most of the pattern directions start, “Make a magic ring, crochet 6 dc in it.”  I was really struggling until I realized these directions are English. The dc is what I call a single crochet, not a double. That helps.

Next problem is that the pieces are so small, and the yarn is so springy. My arthritic fingers and dry eyes are rebelling. We shall persevere and win. However, her plan of making all 26 amigurumi may be more ambitious than I am feeling. I do wish I’d made one before I started helping Vera. As I’ve crocheted my little animal, I’ve remembered a lot of little tricks that make the process easier. For example, count patterns by multiples.

October 15th.

I have sat with school work, painted and crocheted with Bella, and helped Remi ride his borrowed 2-wheeler.

Lenora continues nursing like a champ. Any fears that her kidneys had a problem have been dispelled, at least for me, with many wet diapers. She has already perfected to having a diaper blowout just as they were ready to get in the car for a doctor appointment, thus needing a clothing change and an additional nurse. Proving my theory that every child adds 15 minutes to schedule for estimated drive away time.

Mary is healthy and healing really well. My only job would be to encourage her to not overdo too soon. Easy to do when everything is going as well as it is. Ryan helps with vitamins, baby changing, and lots of baby holding.

I am thrilled that I am not really needed. I have changed my ticket to tonight and booked Brian to drive me to the airport. I’ll be back, probably with Grant, likely in December.
