Catching Up

I find it takes me at least a day to recover (somewhat) from a trip. I had paid for upgrades to first class, $221 each, for our red eye home. Although it was nice to have dinner, I wasn’t impressed. Perhaps there was a footrest I could figure out, but I have slept better in the narrower seats in premium. Meh.

We slept most of the morning, had lunch, then napped. By the next day, I was somewhat myself. Not quite on East Coast time, but getting there. Now it’s catch up time.

Yard: I must take down the lychee and get the bananas planted across the canal-side in its place. They are starting to work on the opposite lot, and I want my privacy plants up and tall. I’ll plant more elderberry at the water’s edge, and clear out around the swamp maples and cypress, which are natives. But first, bananas.

I harvested my onions: Texas Sweets, Red Creole, and Texas Early Whites. I’m pleased with the crop. Next year, I hope to do it a little earlier, so I can braid the tops. Since I hadn’t dug up all the sweet potatoes in that bed, new plants are already growing. I’ve taking some cuttings to supplement and fill in areas.

The front yard needs major weeding and cutting back. Little by little, I’m taking down the frozen wild lime and placing its thorny branches directly in the yard waste can. Other things, for example, the lychee, I’m using the chop-and-drop method, creating compost by default. I also cut up the pieces of my neighbors’ mango that had fallen on my side of their fence. I love my little Stihl chainsaw.

I’ve painted the last couple of days, which I didn’t do at all while we were gone. I must figure out how to sketch and paint on the road. Two parts: equipment and time. However, I’m not buying anything until I’ve used what I have. All sorts of little kits call to me. No, just no.

Garden Club: yesterday, I met with my Membership Committee to organize next year. Lots decided, and a member has already sent a recap. I just need to put it into a form that’s easy for me to see who is doing what. I’m using the 15 minute approach to tackle that and all the other paperwork I have waiting for me: finances, Toastmasters, charitable contributions, etc.

I’m behind on this blog. Mostly, I need to add pictures to trip posts. Plus get books made since I just got an email from a company who does that.

Lastly, I am getting 1 box off the garage shelves and out of our lives. June is the VHS tapes. I am having Grant see if our player even works. If it does, I’ll try some of the tapes. Then we can decide how much time we want to commit. If it doesn’t, everything goes in the garbage. I’m actually hoping it doesn’t. Who actually wants hours and hours of home movies?
