Wasting Away
Yes, I’m in good shape, for my age, as the doctors always have to add. However, 10 pounds less makes my pants fit better. Back on the eat less, exercise more plan.
January 6th: 170.0# I’ve begun my arm exercises again and am trying a NYT’s stretching program for lower backs. Mine is fine, and I plan to keep it that way.
January 13th: 172.0# Sigh, definitely not the right direction. At least I’ve started walking daily and added my shoulder exercises back to my routines.
February 3rd: 172.5# Double sigh, but no surprise. I have reestablished my morning exercises, varying from shoulders to stretching to some more core. We moved the stationary bike to the lanai. I ride every few days.
February 24th: 172# Up and down, wavering around 172. We have walked every day this past week, except Wednesday, when it rained all day.
March 10th: 177# Ouch. I knew our low-impact birding trip definitely would impact my weight. Too much enjoying eating casado (beans, rice, protein, plantains, and often more), too little walking. Worth it.
March 17th: 171# Happy St Patrick’s Day. Grant has been doing a wonderful job of feeding us lower calorie, delicious meals that he has fun cooking. Today will be full bore corned beef and cabbage with soda bread and a Guinness stout chocolate cake (my contribution). I will have to remind him mustard is a good condiment. We don’t need the mustard sauce he found a recipe for.
March 24th: 172# Since Grant’s falling and breaking his pelvis, I’ve been in charge of food plus waiting on him, in addition to my usual jobs. A salmon bowl before going to hospital, pizza when we came home. I can see a donut in my future.
March 31st: 171# Reading Fumio Sasaki’s Hello, Habits: A Minimalist’s Guide to a Better Life. He swears by keeping daily records. I’ve added that to my journal.
April 7th: 172# Off to California for a week.
April 14th: 171.5 Survived not much exercise last week; just enjoyed being with Mary. I’m focusing on self-care, being kind to my future self (idea from book by KC Davis). To that end, no booze streak, now up to 15 days.
April 21st: 169.5# Finally heading in the direction I want.
May 12th: 167# Still eating less, still on no alcohol run, almost ditto on butter.
May 19th: 169# 6 days in a row under 170#. Happy, happy
June 2nd: 167.5# The last 10 days, all 167.5 and under.
June 9th: 162# Perhaps all the vegetarian food we’ve eaten this past week is paying off.
June 16th: 162# Average for last week 163#. Definitely keeping the lentil and chickpeas recipes in the rotation.
June 30th: 163.5# Back from a week in California, so well done me. (Avoided all the candy lying in weight.)
