Blue Moon over Lake Down |
I’d say that Grant just gave me the worst haircut I’ve ever had, but it wouldn’t be true. The absolute worst was by Bob in Wilton Manors. Normally a fabulous hairstylist, he was just getting started cutting my hair, when he got a phone call from either the IRS or his lawyer, I don’t remember which. As he became more and more agitated about the state of his taxes, my hair received crazier and crazier chops. Eventually he hung up, declared me done. I looked like I’d been attacked with a weed wacker. I actually paid, probably even tipped Bob, and left. I was too shocked to say anything, and he had sharp objects. I never returned, and Bob never called to apologize. Maybe he went to tax prison.
I’ve ordered hair clippers and will give Grant another chance. I may end up looking like a Marine recruit heading to boot camp, but better than it looks right now. Steph and some of my friends are going to hair salons. Others are having beauticians come to their houses. We are still avoiding any contact we can. If the price is really ugly hair, I’m willing to pay it until a vaccine is available.
No one knows what to do about Halloween. In Fort Lauderdale, our house was the only one at the end of a dirt road lined with oak trees. Little children were afraid to come down to trick or treat; bigger kids didn’t bother to waste their time on one house when other streets were easier pickings. Now we live where I thought I’d be handing out candy all evening. But the virus and social distancing put the kibosh on that fun. I opted to skip this year. Instead, we walked over to watch the full moon, (a blue moon), rise over Lake Down. A couple of our neighbors had set out card tables with candy spread out. One car passed us, kids scouting to places to trick or treat. And a decorated golf cart towed a cart full of costumed little ones. The police and firefighters were supposed to have a caravan through the neighborhood, passing out candy but we didn’t see or hear them. When we walked back home, the card tables still had most of the candy waiting for the missing goblins. I resisted taking any.

Clara the Malificent |
Stephane, as usual, went all out on Clara’s costume, with Enrique creating the horns on his 3D printer. They had already taken Day of the Dead photos.
