Our lives have developed a nice rhythm with always something to do but no pressure to do it. Perhaps this will get boring, but I am content.
We are mostly settled, with the kitchen set up, and clothes put away. Hanging pictures and setting out objects d’arte has been stymied because first we need to move a couple of bookcases and a bureau to what we hope is their final spots. Today I’m being Cinderella and seeing if my swollen foot has healed enough to let me wear sneakers or my boots. Not glass slippers, but toe protection while I help slide furniture.

Glow-in-the-dark Tape |
After stumbling off our almost invisible step too many times, I’m proud of my solution. We’d tried rugs on the higher level, then on the lower one. Grant put out a nightlight. I added blue painters’ tape as a temporary measure. But nothing helped when we were up in the middle of the night. I though about some sort of laser beam, but could only find invisible security alarms. Then a lightbulb went off: glow-in-the-dark tape. It’s white during the days; shiny at night.

Okra Ready to Be Thinned |
The okra has sprouted, but nothing else. I didn’t see any difference between the plot covered in newspaper and the one without. We did have a couple of big rains so perhaps both got enough watering to negate any variation. I plan to have the other two plots and the rest of the sunflowers planted this week.

Squirrel Thinking of Jumping to Feeder. |
My two bird feeders have attracted red bellied woodpeckers, tufted titmouse, Northern cardinals, red winged blackbirds, and a crow that is too big but has tried several times. Today a blue jay came, but the male cardinal strafed it and ran it off. I assume they will come to an agreement.
I’m hoping the Carolina wrens come soon. I hear them and saw one in the bananas. The squirrels are thwarted by the baffles hanging on the pole and have given up jumping from the boat house. So far, no action at the hummingbird feeder. I’ll keep nectar in it. Jason from the Wild Birds Unlimited store assures me they will come.
